3 Powerful Ways to Move Through Any Situation

This quote by Buddha really go me thinking… “Once you love yourself, you will realize how loving others becomes much easier.”

So how do you get there?

The path to loving yourself is unique to all of us. And like anything that’s worth doing…it’s an ongoing process. It’s moment by moment, and there’s no end destination (or arriving somewhere). It’s in the journey and the willingness to be honest with yourself. That path belongs to you and only you.

In my journey to create authentic self love, I found I had to really slow down enough to be able to listen to my thoughts, my needs, and get to my core intention. Why was I doing anything at all? What was motivating me? As someone who appears confident and is mostly extroverted, I didn’t realize how much I needed to work on loving myself and how much I was looking for external validation. More on that later…

And here in the second part of the quote, Buddha references a big bonus that comes out of self love…realizing how loving others becomes much easier. Finding more compassion and love for others — and I’d add…even if they’re tough to deal with.

We all experience tough times, sad moments, and disagreeable interactions with others. Be them with our family members, an apathetic neighbor, a selfish friend, (or even your own self deprecating mind chatter). I’ve noticed a lot of power dynamics at play recently, so I wanted to share some steps that have helped me work through them. They all come back to self love.

“Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.” — Dalai Lama

  1. Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Take a moment to stop and listen to your thoughts. What is really going on for you?

  2. Perspective matters. Hurt people, hurt people. You can choose to always go back to love. Love for yourself. Love for them. Having compassion will elevate your frequency and shift your level of upset. We can never truly understand what another is going through. Focus on what you can control — your outlook.

  3. Let go of needing to be right. Discover what you will and won’t tolerate. Thank them and be willing to move on.

This is an invitation to give yourself the gift of looking deeply within and to take the time to pause throughout your week and slow down. Take a moment for you and only you. You deserve it.
